The Lanark Park area is a great place to go for families looking to enjoy the Los Angeles River. The area has a variety of activities for kids, including a skate park, and even an outdoor pool. In addition, the park is located near the Canoga Park neighborhood, which means there are plenty of other fun things to do in the area.
Extreme Teens
The Lanark Recreation Center's Friday night program has revived the popular "Extreme Teens" ad campaign of yore. In fact, they had a Cinco De Mayo event to commemorate the occasion. The park also has a teen softball league. The staff is devoted to making improvements in their community. In fact, they have managed to divert some local youth away from the gang scene. In the words of senior lead officer Alex Padron, "We're doing all we can to get kids in the doors, and we're not letting them get out."
The program isn't a perfect success, but it does boast some impressive feats of engineering. The most notable one is the fact that they actually know who is in charge. In the past, their biggest challenge has been keeping a lid on the gang scene. Fortunately, they have a few new faces on board to help. The aforementioned Farmer Boys is just one of many eateries to be found in Canoga Park. Another notable entrant is the illustrious Rabbit Hole bar, where the aforementioned microbrews go down. Other noteworthy locales include the aforementioned Village, aforementioned Westfield Topanga and the aforementioned Village. The aforementioned Village may be the only place in the area to boast an onsite Starbucks. Of course, this is not to say there aren't a few worthy coffee purveyors aplenty. The aforementioned Westfield Topanga, by no means a teeming masses, is a little less affluent than its neighbors, but a nice cup of joe can still be had on a budget. Aside from the obvious aforementioned brews, you'll find a handful of aficionados congregating at the adjacent aforementioned abomination. The name badge ain't cheap, but there's always a seat on hand.
Los Angeles River
Los Angeles County is working to redesign the Los Angeles River as a greenway. The LA River Greenway will connect the Los Angeles River from its headwaters at Canoga Park to the Pacific Ocean. The new pathway will follow the entire length of the Los Angeles River. Its route will run through 17 cities.
The Los Angeles River has been a subject of renewed interest in recent years. It features prominently in movies and television series, including The Amazing Race, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, The Stranger, and The Midnight Club. The City of Los Angeles launched the Summer Night Lights program in 2008. It was created in order to reduce gang-related crime. This program keeps select parks open late. It also provides a wide variety of recreational activities. The goal is to promote community unity and engage young people.
The program runs at 32 parks across the city. It offers free food, sports, arts and crafts, video gaming, and mentoring. The program also includes sports clinics.
